CHAN squad revealed for Malawi showdown

CHAN squad revealed for Malawi showdown

Molefi Ntseki has named his 20-man squad for Bafana Bafana’s crunch 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying double-header against Malawi next month.

The biennial tournament was initially scheduled for February but was pushed back to August due to delays in Kenya with upgrading its venues to co-host matches alongside Tanzania and Uganda.

South Africa are one of four teams fighting for two places in Group C. They will face the Flames in the second qualifying round, which also sees Algeria go up against Gambia for a CHAN berth.

Ntseki will remain in charge of the team after successfully navigating the first qualifying round with a 4-2 aggregate win over Egypt in March, having only been handed the reins one month earlier.

“The head coach that was appointed, Mr. Molefi Ntseki, will continue with the team as he started with them, and we felt that they’ve done a wonderful job. We can also confirm that he will continue with CHAN until the end,” SAFA Technical Committee Chairman Jack Maluleke said.

Ntseki’s side was due to assemble in Johannesburg on Monday, April 28 for and would remain in camp until they depart for Lilongwe on Thursday, May 1. The first leg will take place at the Republic Stadium on Saturday, May 3 and the second leg is set for Sunday, May 11 at Loftus Versfeld.
