COSAFA Banyana set for semis showdown with Mozambique

COSAFA Banyana set for semis showdown with Mozambique

The Banyana Banyana team taking part in the COSAFA Women’s Championship will battle for a place in the final against Mozambique on Thursday afternoon. Kick-off is at 15:00 CAT (SA, GMT+2) The team has shown an immense level of attacking ability, scoring goals in every match they’ve played in the regional tournament. Coach Maud Khumalo says that they know what’s at stake and they have planned their output in such a way that they don’t concede early and find themselves chasing the game. “We have to be patient and know that it is a do or die game, it’s the knockout stages and it’s another phase of the tournament,” said Khumalo as quoted by SAFA. “So, we have to up our game and showcase that it’s a different phase of the tournament and it’s no longer a group stage game. The players understand this and it’s more about us continuing to play the way we have been playing and be more disciplined in every aspect of the field”. According to Khumalo, she has watched her players and determined where each one fits on the pitch as well as who to start against various opponents. “Remember, we prepare according to the opponent. We also look at the players we have in the team, who will be the best players to send out for a particular encounter because each and every player has their game,” she continued. “It also depends on how we want them to play and also looking at the team, if we want them to play a certain way. These are the types of players we need on that particular day.” During the group stages, COSAFA Banyana thrashed the Seychelles 8-1 in their last match, conceding just one goal in the game against the islanders. With 12 goals overall, the South Africans have been the top scoring team since the tournament commenced.
