Bafana Star Watch – Rayners on target in high pressure CAF CL final
Bafana Bafana striker Iqraam Rayners once again showcased his class during the recent CAF Champions League final after getting his name on the scoresheet in Mamelodi Sundowns’ 3-2 aggregate defeat against Pyramids at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday evening.
While the game was delicately poised at 1-1 heading into the second-leg this weekend, it was not to be for Sundowns as efforts by Fiston Mayele and Ahmed Samy were enough to see Pyramids lift the coveted trophy after the final whistle.
Nonetheless, Rayners’s well-taken volley inside the Pyramids box proved to be his fourth in the popular competition this season.
The former Stellenbosch star signed for Sundowns in August last year and has since gone on to score 22 goals in 44 games played during the 24/25 campaign.
Rayners was perhaps most consistent in the Betway Premiership, where he managed to score 14 times in 26 games, while grabbing nine assists along the way.
