COSAFA Cup Match Preview: Bafana Bafana battle Comoros for spot in COSAFA Cup final

COSAFA Cup Match Preview: Bafana Bafana battle Comoros for spot in COSAFA Cup final

Bafana Bafana will face the Comoros at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Friday with a spot in the 2025 COSAFA Cup final on the line.

Kick-off is at 18h00 CAT.

South Africa earned their place in the semi-finals after clinching the top spot in Group A. Despite a disappointing 0-0 draw with Mauritius on Tuesday, Zimbabwe upset group leaders Mozambique, winning 3-1. This result saw Bafana Bafana advance on goal difference, which separated the sides as all three accumulated four points in their three fixtures.

Comoros qualified for the semi-finals after finishing top of group D, having beaten Zambia 1-0 and being held to a goalless draw by Botswana.

While they may have Zimbabwe to thank, Bafana Bafana are on track to meet coach Vela Khumalo’s goal of lifting the 2025 COSAFA Cup. Despite booking their spot in the semi-finals, Khumalo reiterated that goalscoring remains his side’s biggest issue.

“But I think what has always been the problem with us, since the beginning of the tournament, was not being clinical – we’re not scoring goals,” said Khumalo.

“We create the chances and get the entries into the final third, we stretch them with width, we go inside, we go with combinations, but the one thing we’re not doing well is scoring the goals.”

Khumalo will hope his side can overcome this issue and find the back of the net against the Comoros to book their spot in the final.
